According to Katie Cassel, famed "weed warrior" and director of the Kokee Resource Conservation Program, "they seeded it out of B-51 bombers in the re-forestation projects in the 60's, so it filled valleys to the top where the seeds find the first soil and level ground to grow; otherwise it wouldn't have gotten way up there because the seeds are too big to be carried by birds."
